"Warmin' UP!"...The island prepares for the new season..

The "Rolón Sur" shipwrecked on the island of d'es Penjats
between Ibiza and Formentera

The "Rolón Sur", a cargo ship of Baleária of 111 m., bukt in 1976, is shipwrecked since early morning yesterday in the island of the Penyats..an beteen Ibiza and Formentera.

The ship slammed into an underwater rock which was 9 meters under the surface in an area where the ship had no business crossing....it (the ship) was clearly crossing the isthmus between Ibiza and Formentera where it shouldn´t, and was completely off course of the markerd channel crossing.

All 22 persons aboard were evacuated safe and sound. There is no fuel leakage, and the priority now according to Baleária is to pump out the fle tanks to avoid any spillage......the site is less that 3 km from Salinas Beach.

 Ibiza INCOMMUNICATE...

On the 23rd of this month the island was, once more left high and dry
with respect to internet communications.

The water comany, Aqualia, apparantly cut a fiiber optic cable through which passes ALL DSL INTERNET traffic with an excavator, while digging a
new water channel.

From 10:00AM to 2:15 PM the island communications traffic was brought to a screaming halt.

This is not the first time that telephne cables have been chopped in half by
excavators that had no idea where the cables run before the start to dig.

It appears, there is no requirement in Ibiza, for excavators to sign-off that they have seen the cable maps......so this is the type of accident that we
can expect will repeat it self.
The Catalan company, Vaina Produccions, will take the play "La cena de los idiotas" (Idiots' Dinner) by Francis Veber to Can Ventosa on March 3 at 9.30 p.m.
The play, directed by Paco Mir, tells the story of an executive who, together with his friends,
organises every week a dinner to invite an unknown person, chosen for having some stupid hobb
On this occasion they invite a tax inspector who involuntarily makes the host's life an absolute disaster.

 MARIANO RAJOY on Ibiza yesterday...
Mariano Rajoy the Partido Popular's candidate for President of Spain in the coming elections of March 14, was on Ibiza yesterday as part of his whirlwind campaign tour of the Balearic Islands.
He strongly critiicized the socialists for their 'alliances' with many small leftist parties, warning that a victory by the left with this type of political makeup would bring the same disaster that the Balerarics´suffered under the 'Progresisitas'...during the last four years, to a national level.
