FAMOUS SCAMS OF IBIZA- PART I

"....Psssst!......How about a little 'Grass'?":
Marijuana is legal in Spain for personal consumption (a few grams).....what is not legal is selling it.
But every summer there are a group of Gypsy ethinic origins, who ply the trade of selling all kinds of 'drugs' in the harbor area of Ibiza.

The way it works is this:
The mother pushes a baby-cart (which is the portable warehouse) and waits a block or two away....and the young males 'hook' for potential clients on the corners.

Most of these young men are known to the police and have long records for drug trafficking.....so it is not in their interest to be caught with over 100 grams of anything. (hence the portable warehouse).

The kicker:.....what they are selling to the tourists is not Marijuana at all!.....it turns out that they are small plastic envelopes of OREGANO!......and the 'coke' is small plastic envelopes of powdered sugar!
By the time their clients have figured this out...they are GUESS WHAT?....that's right!......GONE!.

The beauty of the scam:
If the police bust the sellers, they can not charge them with trafficking since there is no drugs invloved, and the buyers can not go to the cops crying about how they got scammed trying to buy some illegal drugs.

FAMOUS SCAMS of IBIZA II 'The Pea and the Nutshell'

"Why are you so angry?..Everybody knows that you have to pay for your entertainment, Marge!".

Although it is hard to believe, this scam is alive and well in Ibiza harbor. It would be unbelievably funny if it weren´t for the fact that many tourists fall for this game and wind up losing all thier hard-earned vacation money. The way it works: This scam requires 6 persons at a minimum. 2 are stationed at the corners to warn the other four that the police are coming. 4 persons have to be around the table at all times, of which one is the fellow taking the bets and moving the nutshells, and the other three are dressed like...and act like tourists playing the game (and losing). While the sucker or 'mark' ('primo' -in Spanish) observes the game, great sums of money are 'lost' to the 'tourists' and the bet taker goes into dramatic and sometimes tearful histeria about how 'stupid' he is. When the mark steps up to play....if he makes a small initial bet, they let him win......but the second time, for a much larger bet.....guess what?.....right......he loses. I have seen tourists get clipped for over 1,000 Euros in less than 5 minutes....which gave rise to this cartoon.......because, as everyone knows, a sucker nevr admits that he is a sucker.
