Today, April 23 is the Day of the Patron Saint of San Jordi ( and
it's related FIESTAS) is also BOOK DAY on Ibiza (thru the week-end..until
Monday). Several dozen book stands
have set-up on the Paseo Vara del Rey in the center of town and
in the Plaza del Parque, and offer a wide selection of new and used
books. The authors of many of the books are there to dedicate thier new
books, and there are essay contests for the school kids.
There is also an exhibition about ECOLOGY in the island sponsered by AMICS de la TIERRA.
Especially apropo, in light of recent declarations of the former Consel
de Medio Ambiente-Fanny Tur, to the effect that the newly elected Partido
Popular is running agreat risk of enormous Common Market fines, if
they do take immediate steps to impermiablize the Ibiza gargabe dump near
Roca Lisa
The weather is beautiful today so there is no excuse. Find the time
to get down to the Vara de Rey:
Footnote: I broke away from the office this afternoon to go to the Book
Fair -Guess what?....I found a FIRST EDITION of Elliot Paul's-"Life and
Death of a Spanish Town" with the original fly jacket, photos
of Elliot Paul AND the clippings of the first critique of the book (1937)!!!!!...What
luck!.....I didn´t have enough cash on me though, so I made a 10
Euro deposit and will pick up the book tomorrow. (total price: 60 Euros)....Small
world...what???....Bob
