NEWS AND VIEWS

Today, April 23 is the Day of the Patron Saint of San Jordi ( and it's related FIESTAS) is also BOOK DAY on Ibiza (thru the week-end..until Monday).
Several dozen book stands have set-up on the Paseo Vara del Rey in the center of town and in the Plaza del Parque, and offer a wide selection of new and used books. The authors of many of the books are there to dedicate thier new books, and there are essay contests for the school kids.

There is also an exhibition about ECOLOGY in the island sponsered by AMICS de la TIERRA. Especially apropo, in light of recent declarations of the former Consel de Medio Ambiente-Fanny Tur, to the effect that the newly elected Partido Popular is running agreat risk of enormous Common Market fines, if they do take immediate steps to impermiablize the Ibiza gargabe dump near Roca Lisa

The weather is beautiful today so there is no excuse.

San Antonio -'BIG BROTHER' is coming.....
The superior court has authorized the installation of vigilance video cameras in the key areas of San Antonio....especially the West End...
The plan calls for the installation of 7 camaras with 24 hour surveilance of the popular areas of San Antonio, connected to the local police station.
"...It is not a move which we want to do...considering the expense and the possible legal aspects of privacy infringement, but somehow we have to get control of conflictive areas of the town.....so that we can have a little peace..", declared the Mayor of San Antonio.
