New Crafts Market in San Antonio

The San Antonio city council team is studying the creation of a weekly handcrafts market that will work during the summer months in three different locations in the commercial centre of San Antonio, Ibiza: one in the Church, s´Era d´en Manyà and the Plaza de España and the streets that unite them. The last location will not be used until the under ground parking that is planned in this location is finished.

The councilman of Commerce, Vicent Costa Maimó, said that the government team foresees intiiating the project this tourist season (probably, at the end of June), the first summer this project will work with a experimental character, to determine its possibilities in the future.

In order to start up this project, the City council counts on the collaboration of the Association of Donas del Camp (farmer women), although Costa admitted that they have spoken with groups of ceramists, beekeepers and other craftsmen of Ibiza to see if they can collaborate.

"..the idea - he indicated - is to create a varied market, but giving priority to the artisan production and the native things. Not just to sell but also a place where the interested ones can go to learn the techniques of the craftsmen ".

Other markets that might be of interest to the visitor is the
Hippy Market in Es Cana: (Wednesdays) With over 400 stands, this is the largest market on the island of Ibiza.

Las Dalias in San Carlos: (Saturdays) Smaller than the Hippy market but with more flair.
