IBIZA: Beach Study Says Leave Seaweed Alone

THE IBIZA SUN NEWSPAPER

After spending 6000€ on a special, pioneering study to see the environmental health & state of the beaches in the borough of Sant Antoni, the experts have recommended that the sea weed deposited on the beaches should not be removed at any time of the year if the town wants healthy beaches. If sea weed is removed for one reason or another, then this should never be done by a mechanical method. The sea weed, in particular the Poisidonia (Sea eel grass), is one of the ways the sediment in the sea is held together to create beaches. The report also seemingly says that the sea creatures living on the sea bed need to be cared for as they also help create healthy naturally consolidated beaches. The report goes on to say that buoys should be placed in the sea so that pleasure craft tie up to these rather than drop anchor & damage the sea bed environment.
