Crime statistics down in ibiza
The number of purse snatches in Ibiza has been reduced by 12 percent, but robberies with force have increased. The director of the Governments delegation on Ibiza, Sr. Bar, admits that the summer began at a "alarming rate" but he anticipates that the year 2006 close with a slight reduction in the number of crimes with respect to the last year in Ibiza and Formentera. At the beginning of the summer a "alarming rise" of some types of crimes took place. Bar indicated that in the areas which are controlled by the Civil Guard (all the municipalities except Ibiza Town) purse snatches have gone down 12 percent and the crimes against sexual freedom have gone down 30 percent.
"However, the statistics were not so positive with robberies with force", he concluded.
Comparing November with the same month of last year, "a global crime reduction of 30 percent has taken place". In Formentera, the reduction is similar: of 22 crimes in November of 2005 to 9 in the same period of 2006.
Ibiza has been counting for several months with extra groups of between 20 and 25 Guardia Civil agents coming from the mainland. Their mission, according to Bar, is "the prevention of crime". "A visible presence of the agents makes prevention very effective".
