Ibiza Sun Protection
Everybody loves the summer, but not everyone is aware of it's risks.
Skin cancer is a very real and present danger.
This week on Ibiza's main paseo, the Vara de Rey, dermatologistas and pharmacists of the Spainsh Association against Cancer, mounted a public information campaign about portecting yourself from this risk.
Their advice:
If youa re dark-skinned, a sun cream with a protective factor 20 should suffice, but fairer skinned persons, out for the first time in the summer, should start with a protection factor of 30-40.
They also advised about best to apply, and the importance of when the cream is applied:
Their advise is to apply the cream before exposure
and every 2 hours therafter and /or after entering the water.
They advise that cloudy days are the most dangerous because there is no sensation of heat on the skin, but that the ultaviolet rays reach our skin with equal intensity as a bright sunny day.
Your exposure should be gradual, with no more than 15 minutes the first days, and no exposure at all between 12:00 and 4:00 PM during the first couple of days.
Hats and anti-ultaviolet sunglasses are a must....especially for children, and always bring a bottle of drinking water.
