A increase of 6% in the number of British tourists

The consul of the United Kingdom in Balears, Paul Abrey, assured yesterday that he calculates an increase of between the five and six percent of British tourists visiting Ibiza and the rest of the islands this high season with respect to the previous year, since only in Mallorca they expect two million visitors.

These numbers agree with the forecasts conducted recently by the president of the Consell Insular, Pere Palau. Abrey affirmed that he bases this prognosis on his impression and the numbers that the embassy of the United Kingdom in Spain handle. The consul made these declarations after a meeting with the president of the Govern, Jaume Matas, to invite him to the commemorative act of the 80 birthday of the Queen of England, Isabel II, that will be celebrated in the castle of Bellver in Palma, the next 10th of June.

Ibiza "is not a propitous place for organized bands"

Ibiza "is not a propitious place" for the performances of organized bands specialized in assaulting villas and luxury houses. This is what was exposed yesterday by the insular director of the Government, Jose Manuel Bar, he explained that "There has't been any waves of robberies in Ibiza and Formentera", reason why "May continues being a specially calm month".

"the parameters of criminal acts are the usual ones and they are not specially alarming", indicated the person in charge of the security forces in the islands.

In Ibiza and Formentera isolated "cases of assaults do happen", "which does not mean that nothing is done to prevent them", indicated Bar. "the planning of the activity of the Civil Guard during the tourist season precise the priority of the services, but, in general it also reinforces the monitoring of the urbanizations", explained the insular director.
The arrival of the reinforcements for the summer approved by the Department of the Interior are still pending.
