Music and cocktails at the Museum of Modern Art


The Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza was the scene for the awards of the fourteenth edition of the City of Ibiza's short story awards in both the adult and children categories. Esther Locker, in the childrens' category, and Pere Casanovas i Santacana, in the adult category,(The Labyrinth of Crete'), recieved the awards from Ibiza's Councilwoman for Culture, Lourdes Costa. And Fanny Tur passed out roses to the public celebrating 'Book Day'.

Before the awards, the group Ibiza Saxophone Quartet led by Pedro Prieto (Alto Sax), offered a brief concert, offering some great selections of pop and jazz from Scott Joplin, Lenny Niehaus, Henry Mancini and others, bringing the house down with applause.

Housing and the transportation, the main problems of Ibiza Town

Most of citizens of Ibiza town think that it's a good place to live and approve the management that is carried out by the local government, according to a survey presented by the City council.

The citizens of Ibiza consider public transportation and the price of housing to be the two of main problems of the the town.

Nevertheless, most of the surveyed persons consider that Vila is a good place to live and to work. The report reveals that the residents in Ibiza town, give 'failure' grades of 4.9 (out of 10)
to their publc transportation system

The data also reflect that 84.5% of the citizens afirm that they are "very happy or happy" to live in Ibiza, the main values of the city are "it is a cosey place, with a good quality of life and where it is possible to enjoy your free time and go shopping". Most of the surveyed recognize being proud of their city, with an average grade of 7,59.

The assistant mayor of Ibiza town, Pedro Campillo, presented the results of the survey next to the director of the study, Jordi Oliveres. The study reflects the opinion of the citizens on aspects like the city-planning, the municipal social services, the environmental protection and of the heritage and leisure possibilities, among other services. Campillo emphasized the "positive perception" that the citizens of Ibiza have from thier town.

The citizens approve with 5.18 services of cleaning of the city, whereas the grade of approval rises to 6.72 when asked about the garbage collection. A 98.3% of the citizens recognize that the selective collection is "beneficial" for the city.

A whopping 95% of those surveyed consider that tourism must continue being the main economic motor of the city, and in this sense, most of citizens recognize the importance of carrying out a Plan of Tourist Excellence in the town. The creation of new infrastructures was another question in the survey, a 67.8% agree that the creation of new yacht harbors will be beneficial to the city. and 89.2% consider positive the campaigns of promotion of Ibiza town. Also positively valued is the protection of ses Feixes and the maintenance of the historical heritage of Dalt Vila.
