The waters located to the East of the island of Ibiza will be today scene of the exercise ` Balsar 06´, in which a plane crash between a plane of the Spanish Army and a commercial airplane will be simulated. Two Aviocar D3 (one pertaining one to swarm 801 of the Armed Forces with base in the airport of Palma, the other of swarm 803 of Madrid) and a helicopter Puma HD19 will be the ones in charge to detect and to rescue from the air the survivors. In the exercise, that will be around the 10 hours, also they will participate to two Marine rescue boats of the coordinating center of Palma and a boat of the marine service of the Civil Guard. Both boats will collaborate with aerial means in the location and rescues. The Aviocar (that is equipped with a powerful radar in his flattened prow, call ` Duck nose´) will take off of the airport of Ibiza as soon as the signal of aid of the beacon of the airships is received, will locate the place of the collision and it will indicate it to the Puma, that by means of his crane it will eject to the pilot of the military plane (that hopefully has managed to throw himself with a parachute) and will evacuate to a boat or mainland. Previously, the Aviocar will send from its platform rafts and kits of rescue to help the survivors. Soon it will remain in the zone making the job of coordination with the helicopter, for example in the reception by radio. This practice will allow to evaluate the capacity of reaction and the coordination between the centers of emergencies and urgencies of Majorca, the Red Cross, the Civil Guard and Marine Rescue with the SAR. During year 2005, the SAR made 35 searches (24 in Aviocar, the rest in helicopter). Puma HD19 carried out a seven evacuations and 14 rescues that year. Each D3 has a crew composed by two pilots, a flight engineer, a radar operator and one or several finders. On the other hand, each HD19 Puma takes two pilots, a flight engineer (that handle the crane), a rescuer and a DUE (university graduate in infirmary).
