Ibiza and Formentera get 45 tourist police for this season

The municipalities of Ibiza and Formentera will be able to count, as of April, with the reinforcement of 45 new policemen assigned to the local police in quality of tourist police. This number supposes 13 agents more of this type in comparison with the agents of reinforcement contracted the last year. Sant Antoni is the locality that more police will be able to incorporate, to the be to it granted him the 15 seats that it had asked for. This number supposes the third most numerous contingent of reinforcement that the Balearic goverment has given to a town this year after Palma and Calvià.

Conseller of Interior, Jose Maria Rodriguez, presented yesterday in Palma the distribution of the reinforcements that will be able to contract, as of next month, the city councils of Balears through the figure of the tourist police. In the set of Balears, 274 agents will serve, a number that supposes a third more than the last year, according to sources of conselleria. In the case of Ibiza and Formentera, the increase in 13 seats will almost suppose a 50% more with respect to the last year. The distribution of the seats assigned by the Govern establishes 15 tourist police for Sant Antoni, 10 for Ibiza and Sant Josep, 7 for Santa Eulària, 2 for Formentera and 1 for Sant Joan. The councilman of Interior de Sant Antoni, Joan Pantaleoni, assured yesterday that "I feel satisfied with the allocation, because this number is the one that we was solicited. These are those that have been assigned to us, but still we must incorporate them to the group, reason why at the end there could be end less ". The agents of Sant Antoni will distribute themselves between almost all the units of the Local Police and will mainly patrol the zones of greater presence of tourists: the marine stroll, the stroll of ses Fonts, the West End and ses Variades, "although, of more sporadic form, also will cross all beaches of the municipality as Cala Salada, Cala Gració, Cala Gracioneta and es Pouet", indicated Pantaleoni. Ibiza and Sant Josep will be able to incorporate 10 tourist agents each one. In the case of Vila, the inspecting head, Manuel Ayala, also were satisfied to obtain the number of police demanded, with the incorporation of 5 agents more in quality of temporary. In the case of Vila, "luckily or unfortunately, almost all the urban area is tourist, reason why these tourist agents are not going away to locate in any specific zone although, by matters, yes that will be centered more in the municipal ordinances and the infractions of traffic".

In April Ayala expressed his confidence in that the new policemen can be working as rapidly as possible, something that will not happen before mid April. "next day 5th of April it is necessary to do a small examination to them and until day 10 they do not have the definitive lists, reason why he will not be until days later when we sign the contract with them", he augured. The tourist police count on contracts of, at the most, nine months although with the 31 of December like more habitual date to limit their activity. Although conselleria of Interior informed yesterday that 10 tourist police had also granted themselves to the municipality of Santa Eulària, its councilman of Interior, Juan Carlos Roselló, explained that "this number has occurred by error, because we had asked for seven, one more than the last year, and seven have been granted to us". The edile explained that "she is not going to have no problem to be able to cover those seats since there is interested people" but she clarified that it would have liked "that there were more aspirings, because there are not too many people in the island that want to make the basic short course of local police". Roselló emphasized the "great formation of this type of agents". "usually they leave the course with some formation in languages and knowing some proceedings that can be made abroad". With respect to their zones of intervention, the tourist police will act fundamentally in all beaches, from Aigües Blanques to s´Estanyol and those amassed zones more, like Es Canar, Llonga Cove, Es Figueral or Santa Eulària.
