Exibition of photos of Ibiza between 1913 and 1928

The old church of l´Hospitalet serves today as scene for the exhibition ` Camins as mar´, in which images taken of Balears and Ibiza between 1913 and 1928 by Adolf and Pelai have been rescued But.

Jose manuel donated Thirty three photographies of the Arxiu, fourteen of them of landscapes and natives personalities of ibiza,this is exhibited from today in l´Hospitalet, the dependent cultural space of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Ibiza with the sponsorship of the Fundació the Caixa. The Arxiu is made up of than 350,000 images,some more taken in all of Spain by Adolf and Pelai But, father and son, between 1913 and 1928, of which some have been selected to exhibit in l´Hospitalet under the title ` Camins de mar´. Casals of Palm, their cathedral, the millenarian olive trees of Miramar (Majorca), taules and talaiots menorquines and different places and payeses from Eivissa conform the sample book of this collection, whose interest is "more documentary than artistic or aesthetic", in opinion of Noemí Vallespir, coordinator of the exhibition. "These photographies today suppose a work of field of capital interest for any investigator on the customs, religious buildings and civil, landscapes and people of Balears", commented yesterday Vallespir during the presentation of the sample, which also they attended the councilwoman of Culture of the City council of Ibiza, Lurdes Costa, the director of the center, Elena Ruiz, and Juan Jose Clapés Costa and Josep Tur, of the Caixa. All the photographies of the exhibition are unpublished and at the moment belong to the Institut Amatller d´Art Hispànic, that has yielded them for this sample. Impressive a first shot of Es Vedrà, the port of Vila as it was during first half of century XX, diverse groups of payeses, the walls and the Nou Vestibule many years before the construction to his side of the park Reina Sofía, the Carthaginian terra-cotta of the Tanit goddess and some streets of Vila, with the hens pecking in his ground are some of the images natives of ibiza of ` Camin s of mar´, that will be able to be admired in l´Hospitalet until next the 29 of April. "It is the first time that this is brought to light", emphasized Noemí Vallespir and Lurdes Coast. The sample completes with five estereoscopias of Alexandre Shore Handles, recently acquired by the Arxiu. This center has carried out "a great work of systematic documentation that allows to have graphical testimonies of a great value to the study of history, the landscape and the customs of Balears", according to the councilwoman.

The president of the Govern, Jaume Matas, and Balearic conseller of Tourism, Joan Flaquer, were yesterday optimistic by the numbers of increase of tourist reserves in the German market towards the islands of Ibiza. A Scientific Sailboat is sailing its way to Ibiza

The scientific sailboat ` Vell Marí´ Departed yesterday from the Port of Barcelona, the trip will last the next years, they will cover the peninsular coast and the Balearic islands including Ibiza to develop a program of rescue, investigation and protection of the marine species in extinction danger. The boat, that has been hurled by the Foundation for the marine Animales Recovery (CRAM) and Social Obra of ` the Caixa´, left from Barcelona as first point of its trip by the Mediterranean, a route that will continue in 2007 throughout the Canary islands and peninsular Atlantic and Cantabrian coast. Covering more than 7,000 nautical miles of navigation, the sailboat will stop in more than thirty Spanish ports, like Palamós (Girona), Valencia, Ibiza, Malaga, To Corunna, the Palmas, Santander or Gijón, in which he will carry out diverse divulging activities on the state of the ecosystems. On board a crew formed by four scientists and specialists in recovery of marine species travels.
