11 Blue Flag Awards for the Beaches of Ibiza
Ibiza has obtained eleven of the 480 blue flags that a private European foundation grants every year to those beaches that cover a series of services that are demanded by this association.
According to the Association of Environmental Education and of the Consumer, the eleven flags granted to Ibiza represent two less than the ones obtained last year.
The island of Formentera didn't get any flag this year.
The quality of water waters, the existence of urban infrastructure like parkings, showers and wastebaskets, among other aspects are considered by this foundation. A total of 480 beaches, two more than the previous season, have been awarded the blue flag this year, of the 3,106 beaches that exist in Spain; that is to say, a 15 percent of the total. The provinces that recieved the most blue flags this year are Alicante, Pontevedra and La Coruņa, whereas Melilla does not have any blue flag in its beaches. Menorca has seven flags and Majorca got a total of 41.
The flags will be given to the respective city councils.
