Two crew members of a catamaran die off the coast of Girona

There are two survivors and the rescue teams are looking for two missing. The strong wind turned over the catamaran when it was going to the port of Cannes, France.

Two of the six crew of a catamaran that had left from Ibiza on Sunday in the direction Cannes and died yesterday morning when they tried to reach the coast in the locality of Port de la Selva, in Girona, after the strong wind turned over the boat on Sunday night.

The Marine Rescue and the Firemen of the Generalitat de Catalunya (including two helicopters and several boats) searched for the two companions, while the survivors follow the rescue news from the City council of Port de la Selva.

The deceased are Pierre Paulmier and the only woman on board, Brigitte Cat-Rastler, and the missing have been identified like Jacques Planes and Cristophe Catsilli. The survivors are the captain of the boat, Patrick Roullet, and Bruno Gangarossa.

All of them resided in the French region of Toulousse. The catamaran `Accroch coeur´ left last Sunday from Ibiza, where it had arrived from Barcelona as a participants of the North version (that left from Barcelona) of the regata ` Ruta de la Sal´. The crew was formed by six people, five men and one woman, all of them of French nationality. The boat, a model Outremer 45 of 13.7 meters of length, it was rented to make the regatta "Ruta de la Sal".

They could not transmit any S.O.S message since the radio was submerged. Shortly after dawn, the currents drifted the catamaran towards the coast, reason why the four crew tried to swim to land. When they arrived at the beach they crossed mountains of the zone until they were found in two different places by agents of the Local Police.
