A Scientific Sailboat is sailing its way to Ibiza

The scientific sailboat ` Vell Marí´ Departed yesterday from the Port of Barcelona, the trip will last the next years, they will cover the peninsular coast and the Balearic islands including Ibiza to develop a program of rescue, investigation and protection of the marine species in extinction danger. The boat, that has been hurled by the Foundation for the marine Animales Recovery (CRAM) and Social Obra of ` the Caixa´, left from Barcelona as first point of its trip by the Mediterranean, a route that will continue in 2007 throughout the Canary islands and peninsular Atlantic and Cantabrian coast. Covering more than 7,000 nautical miles of navigation, the sailboat will stop in more than thirty Spanish ports, like Palamós (Girona), Valencia, Ibiza, Malaga, To Corunna, the Palmas, Santander or Gijón, in which he will carry out diverse divulging activities on the state of the ecosystems. On board a crew formed by four scientists and specialists in recovery of marine species travels.
