The desalted water will be distributed to all the island of Ibiza by 2007

To end of next year will be completed the network of drinkable water supply from the three desaladoras plants (Sant Antoni, Ibiza and in the future one in Santa Eulària) with a volume anticipated of 40,000 cubic meters daily, according to the Secretary General of the Balearic Agency of Water, Miquel Costa. The agreement signed between the central Government and the Balearic Govern for the execution of a series of hydraulic works in Ibiza and Formentera contemplates the construction of the regulating water deposits with the purpose of being able to supply to the different municipalities of the islands, with a considered initial budget in 17,5 million euros, that will be the responsibility of the Ministry of Medio ambiente in their totality. "After the interconnection of the desaladoras we needed the construction of deposits and with this agreement we will be able to also construct the branch towards Santa Gertrudis, Sant Miquel and Sant Joan, in addition to the location of deposits to later store and to distribute the water in each one of these localities", clarified Costa. The agreement also establishes the construction of an intermediate deposit in Sant Rafel, as well as a branch from the desaladora of Ibiza towards the zone of sa Platja d´en Bossa with a deposit of 10,000 cubic meters, that will be the biggest one that will be constructed. Also, a new conduction will settle from the desaladora plant of Sant Antoni to Cala de Bou, to supply to the tourist and residential zone. "With all these works we finalized the network of desalted water distribution in Ibiza, with possibilities to supply all municipalities, although the domiciliary distribution will depend acording with the respective city councils, that are the people in charge of this matter",explained Costa.
