"the cultural diversity in the classrooms of Ibiza is a reflection of the present society"

Representatives the educative community protest to the Administration to face the constant arrival of immigrant students to the scholastic centers of Ibiza and Formentera Representatives of the educative community demand more average humans and technical resources to face the constant arrival of immigrant students to the scholastic centers of Ibiza and Formentera. Thus he showed himself during the round table celebrated Thursday in the Daily Club of Ibiza, in the cycle ` Reflexions entorn of l´educació´ that organizes the Associació for the renovation of education system (APREP). Professors, parents and representatives of the educative Administration agreed in indicating that the cultural diversity of the schools is a reflexion of the present society, a reality, according to the intercultural mediator of the City council of Ibiza, Samia Mestassi, "is not new phenomenon but that now it is more evident because Spain has happened to be a receiving country of immigrants". Mestassi, that acted as moderator of the debate on the cultural diversity in the classrooms, emphasized that the arrival of immigrants to the schools "has caused changes in the educative community, that must be well managed to avoid problematic situations ". In this sense, the coordinator of the Phons Pitiús de Cooperació, Fine Darder, indicated that the school "is the suitable space to foment the intercultural values" and added that the coexistence and the respect towards other traditions different from ours "must be seen like something positive and not like a problem". On the other hand, the director of the public school of Sant Carles, Mercedes Ibarrola, and Joan Buades, professor of the institute of Sant Agustí, demanded more average resources to face the new educative necessities. "To accept the reality it is the departure point to foment the respect and the compression", explained Ibarrola. The school of Sant Carles organizes every year a series of cultural weeks that have the objective "to surpass racist expositions". On the other hand, Joan Buades, who talked about to the developed intercultural experience in the institute of Sant Agustí, assured that "the voluntarism of the professors cannot replace the lack of means of the administration". Buades stood out that Ibiza and Formentera counts on one of the highest levels of Spain as far as the number of foreign students (a 16.5% of the total of students are foreign) and explained that, in the tactical mission of the institute of Sant Agustí, twenty different nationalities coexist. On the other hand, the secretary of the federation of Parents of Students (FAPA), Paquita Ribas, indicated that this phenomenon "is enriching and does not have to be treated like a problem, but nowadays its badly organized". During the debate, the territorial delegate of Education, Marí Pillar, assured that from conselleria the average resources are put to face the new educative reality: "Resources it has, although they never are sufficient", said. Marí also defended "the right that the parents of the students who get to the island of Ibiza to choose the school where they want to register his children".
