The cruise tourists spent 11 million euros in Eivissa in 2005
The CAEB presents a study that reveals an increase of 46.9% in the number of cruise ship visitors that visited the island of Ibiza and Formentera in the last year and emphasizes the consolidation of the sector.
The cruise tourism generated in Ibiza and Formentera a total of 11 million euros during year 2005, according to a study elaborated by employer's association CAEB. Of this amount, 10 million euros correspond to direct income of the cost of the tourists (what it supposes an increase of 50.6% in relation to 2004), whereas a million euros (18% more) for indirect income were entered. The report, displayed yesterday in Palma by conseller of Tourism Joan Flaquer, the person in charge of the economic department of the CAEB, Vicent Tur, and the president of the Balearic employer's association, Josep Oliver, emphasizes the increase of 46.9% in the number of cruise ship visitors registered in Ibiza, the 80,856 visitors in 2004 and more than 118,000 during 2005. This increase was also translated in the number of ships that stayed in the port of ibiza, which grew a 16%, from 94 to 109 cruce ships. The tourists remained in the island an average of 1.49 days and registered an average cost of 56.90 euros, a 2.5% more than in 2004. Most of cruce ship visitors that visited the Islands are British and Germans, middle-aged and who travel in pair. The study of the CAEB details, in addition, that a high percentage of the visitors has highly remunerated professions or is retired with resources sufficient to pay for these vacations. The cruise tourists made "a highly positive" valuation of their stay in the islands, according to what they said themselves in the report.
