The bad air services to Ibiza prevent to develop the tourism of retired in winter

The main German touroperadores notice that the bad air services in winter that suffer the Ibiza and Formentera are preventing the correct and beneficial development of the tourism of older people, or senior tourism, coming from the European Union. "Majorca counts on better communications", indicated Rainer Hoffmann, General director of Rewe wholesaler during fair ITB of Berlin. Hoffmann defined to the greater one of the Balears as "it cradles of the winter tourism", that is very related to the older of 65 years, they can travel without being subject to a labor schedule.

The necessity of ` atack´ the segment of the senior tourism is evident with an European population more and more aged. The German touroperators presented in the last edition of the international fair of tourism of Berlin, the ITB: Rewe, TUI, Thomas Cook and Alltours, showed their interest by this market. Thus, most of the wholesalers offers special packages for older already, "simultaneously the destinies are fitting their supply to the necessities and tastes of this public", indicate the magazine specialized in Hosteltur tourism. And here it is where the destiny of Ibiza and Formentera has much to work. The Plan of Tourist Marketing, elaborated by the deprived sector to be applied between administration and industralists, indicates that the island could be a very good destiny for older in winter, "but for this it would need to improve and to adapt his supply hotel, besides to complement it with a correct arrangement of his supply of cultural leisure and to add attractive like the programs of health and well-being for them, that are very appreciated by older in the European Contries". Nevertheless, this it is not the main obstacle. The Plan of Marketing and the touroperadores indicate that if is tried to develop the not subsidized senior tourism, there is a factor that must be surpassed before coming to an important public promotion: the communications. The Plan of Marketing explains, on this point, that the connections in winter "are little, expensive and even nonexistent with the main European countries". The only existing connections have previous scale in Majorca or in Barcelona and indeed the greater client wants facilities and to travel without frights, with no stops in the flights. Thus, the own plan recognizes that it is not worth the trouble at the moment to spend much money in promoting something that still cannot be offered. In spite of the critics by the low yield of the product, a survey of Mundosenior on the Imserso reveals that Balears heads the listing of independent communities in which more income generated the tourism of pensioners, with 75.1 million euros, of which 28,624 correspond to lodging and 46,528 to cost in destiny. In the 2005 only 15 percent of the older of 65 years that traveled did it through these subsidized programs, which supposes that a 85 percent traveled by free or buying organized trips. The Hosteltur magazine, that dedicates a monographic to this type of tourism in its last number, indicates that if the Mediterranean destinies now do not begin to adapt to this market "it can lose competitiveness to other destinies that are being developed in a frame in which the senior already are very considered". It concludes that the explosion of the senior tourism "still has to arrive". As far the touroperators and the tourist of the Ibiza and Formentera sector agree in which the greater advantage of the segment of pensioners is its contribution to break up the high season. The older ones can take advantage of good supplies outside season and, little by little, be turned into their ` favorite´destiny . The problem is that if the infrastructures and the services are not adapted, the tourist will not repeat.
