AIRPORT HIGHWAY PROTESTS
This Sunday, February 19thm 2006....as many as 45,000 Ibiza citizens marched through the center of downtown Ibiza in portest for the planned (and in beginning stages of execution) highway witch will annex large parts of Ibicencan farms and property.
The local government issued a statement that they estimated the crowd to be around 5,000 persons, which provoked jokes and cartoons in the local newspapers regarding the ability of the
the local government to count.
The fact is, there were far more than 5,000 protesters, and the opposition to the new 'AUTOPISTA' is growing.
Signs saying 'NO VOLEM AUTOPISTAS' (We DON'T WANT HIGHWAYS) are visible all over the island.
But, in spite of all the opposition the local government of 'Consell', continues with its building plans.
