EASTER WEEK (SEMANA SANTA) on Ibiza is a very special time. The island begins to awake from its winter slumber, most of the restaurants re-open, and there are many PAGEANTS, PROCESSIONS, and CELEBRATIONS and CONCERTS.

The Ibicencos take these processions very seriously, and invest substantial sums in their 'cofradias' or relIgious groups , for their costumes and accesories in order to present a historically realistic representation of the crusifixion fo Jesus Christ.

In addition the island comes alive with municipal band and orchestra concerts and celebrations in various parts of the island.

Here are some of the best:

AGENDA:

Good Friday:
MARCH 21
In Ibiza:

9:00 PM: The solemn Easter Funeral Procession
starts at the Catheral in Old Town and drum ends to the church in La Marina. Accompanied by drums and candlelight torches, the pageant is very dramatic and very old.

In Santa Eulalia:
March 17
19:00 PM
The way of the cross is re-enacted---
From the center of town to the top of Puig D' Missa.

MARCH 21
18:00 PM
GoodFriday Procession:

Starts from Puig D' MIssa (the hilltop church of Santa Eulalia)
and proceeds through the center of town and back up again.
